Unfortunately (at least I think it is unfortunate) this form of group discrimination (not always hatred) happens wherever groups of people find some way to decide on in- vs out-group. It is not a USA specific phenomenon. Every group of which I have been a member seems to think this way. "All men are created equal" is a wonderful thought - but it excludes women, and is rarely believed.
