The Pipefitters Union and related trades must be paying big bucks to get these regs passed. Chicago has had 10 high rise fire fatalities in the last eight years - hardly a pressing issue, considering the level of gun deaths (11 in Chicago over the July 4 weekend) and traffic deaths (about a thousand a year in Illinois.)
